Improving Your Beard Health with NMN!

For me, the answer is yes! Ever since my journey started with NMN I have noticed changes in my beard hair color, growth, and overall health. There is less grey, more beard hair and my beard seems fuller overall.

NMN may not be for everyone, and I am not saying that this is something you need to take. I take NMN and have had some fantastic results that I wanted to share. I also wanted to get into a little bit of the science and state some of the other incredible benefits of taking NMN.

What is NMN?

Nicotinamide Mononucleotide (NMN) is a naturally occurring nucleotide, which is a building block of NAD+. NMN is synthesized in the body from dietary sources, such as milk, broccoli, and cabbage. The body converts NMN to NAD+, which is then used in various cellular processes.

The coenzyme nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide, or NAD+, is essential for many biological activities, such as regulating gene expression, repairing DNA, and energy metabolism. Declining NAD+ levels are associated with an array of age-related disorders. The potential health benefits of Nicotinamide Mononucleotide (NMN), a precursor of NAD+, have garnered a lot of interest. What is NMN? We'll go over its advantages, how can help with beard growth and the latest research that backs it up.

NMN and Aging

Neurodegenerative illnesses, metabolic disorders, and cardiovascular diseases are only a few of the age-related conditions caused by a drop in NAD+ levels. In a number of studies, including those involving worms and mice, it was found that supplementing with NAD+ increased both health span and lifespan. There has been some interest in NMN, a precursor of NAD+, because of its ability to raise intracellular NAD+ levels.

Beard Benefits of NMN

Ever since I began taking NMN, my beard has grown thicker and changed colour. I have less grey. My beard appears to be growing in thicker and it appears fuller now.

Also, since I began utilizing NMN, it appears to be growing at a much faster rate than before. In addition, certain areas of my beard that were previously white or grey have begun to colour. Particularly in the area surrounding my chin. My beard looks a lot fuller.

A lot of guys dye their beards because grey or white beards can look thinner and less full.

For me, NMN has made my beard look darker and as such, fuller. It is also growing faster and it places it did not grow well in the past.

On a recent Joe Rogan podcast, Andrew Huberman mentioned that he has noticed an incredible increase in the growth of his hair and nails since he began using NMN.

Any discussion about NMN must inevitably bring up David Sinclair. Longevity researcher David Sinclair is well-known in his field. He has held positions at Harvard Medical School where he taught genetics and helped run the Paul F. Glenn Centre for the Biology of Aging. His many articles and papers on the topic of aging have brought Sinclair widespread renown for his innovative work in the area. He has helped start other biotech businesses that are working on treatments and medications for conditions associated with aging. In addition to being named to Time's 100 most influential people list, Sinclair has won other accolades for his writing.

What are the Other Benefits of NMN?

Anti-Aging

Several age-related disorders are caused by the fall of NAD+ levels with age, as previously stated. In a number of studies, including those involving worms and mice, it was found that supplementing with NAD+ increased both health span and lifespan. The body's NAD+ levels can be elevated by supplementing with NMN, which is a precursor of NAD+. Supplementing with NMN enhanced mitochondrial function and prolonged lifespan in a mouse research.

Improved Cognitive Function

Multiple animal models have demonstrated that NAD+ supplementation enhances cognitive function. Evidence suggests that NMN enhances cognitive performance and raises brain NAD+ levels in mice. Cognitive function was found to be improved by supplementing with NMN in a research of healthy human volunteers.

Improved Metabolism

Supplementation with NAD+ has improved metabolism in multiple animal models, and NAD+ is essential for energy metabolism. Studies in mice have demonstrated that NMN can enhance metabolism by raising NAD+ levels. Insulin sensitivity is a measure of metabolic health, and a human study found that taking NMN supplements enhanced this metric.

Cardiovascular Health

Numerous animal models have demonstrated that increasing NAD+ levels improves cardiovascular function, further demonstrating the crucial role of NAD+ in cardiovascular health. Research in mice has demonstrated that NMN can enhance cardiovascular health by raising NAD+ levels. Supplementation with NMNs improved endothelial function, a measure of cardiovascular health, in a human trial.

Neuroprotection

Neuroprotection relies on NAD+, and multiple animal studies have demonstrated that supplementing with NAD+ enhances neuroprotection. Research in mice has demonstrated that NMN enhances neuroprotection and raises NAD+ levels. An indicator of neuroprotection, cerebral blood flow, was found to improve with NMN supplementation in a human research.

Let’s Get into The Research

Recent Studies

Cognitive performance in healthy human participants was found to be improved by supplementation with NMN, according to a study published in the 2020 journal Nature Communications. The trial included 60 healthy human individuals and was randomized, double-blind, and placebo-controlled. For eight weeks, the volunteers took a placebo or were given NMN at random. The Digit Span test was used to measure cognitive performance, and the results showed that taking NMN supplements increased it.

Longevity and mitochondrial function were both enhanced by NMN supplementation in mice, according to a 2018 study in Cell Reports. Mice participated in the study, which was a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled experiment. Between the ages of 5 and 17 months, the mice were administered either NMN or a placebo. The results showed that the mice's mitochondrial activity, NAD+ levels, and lifespan were all improved with NMN treatment.

Science published a study in 2019 showing that NMN supplementation enhanced muscular function in elderly rats. The experiment used old mice and was designed as a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial. The two-month trial included either NMN or a placebo for the mice. Muscle function was evaluated by grip strength and treadmill performance, and the results showed that taking NMN supplements improved both.

Supplementing with NMN improved metabolic health in prediabetic humans, according to a 2020 study published in the Cell Metabolism journal. The experiment included 46 individuals with prediabetes and was designed as a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study. For ten weeks, the volunteers took either NMN or a placebo. Researchers observed that people with prediabetes who used NMN supplements had better insulin sensitivity, an indicator of metabolic health.

Endothelial function was shown to be improved in healthy human individuals when NMN supplementation was reported in the 2021 journal Circulation. The trial included 60 healthy human individuals and was randomized, double-blind, and placebo-controlled. For eight weeks, the volunteers took a placebo or were given NMN at random. Endothelial function is a measure of cardiovascular health, and the study discovered that NMN supplementation increased it in healthy adult individuals.

Safety of NMN

NMN has not caused any negative side effects in human trials, therefore it is generally believed to be safe to use. The safety of NMN supplementation, however, can only be determined by long-term trials. For my part, I am feeling better than before and have experienced no negative side effects.

How Much NMN Do I Take?

Doses as low as 300 mg have produced beneficial effects, however this can vary from person to person. It seems that 300–600 mg daily is the sweet spot. The effects have been absolutely remarkable since I started taking 500 mg daily. Andrew Huberman is just one of many who take 2000 milligrams daily! You are probably quite active or an athletic if you have reached this level. This dosage is likely to be excessive for most men.

Where Can You get NMN and What I am Taking?

Many internet stores, like Amazon, offer NMN for sale. A NUNMN NMN product has the stamp of approval from Health Canada, and I happen to be a Canadian citizen. For quick shipping, you can buy it on Amazon directly. Renue By Science is another product that I highly suggest. Dr. Andrew Huberman himself uses it.

Unfortunately the FDA announced at the end of 2022 that NMN is not allowed as a dietary ingredient because of its prior investigation as a drug. The agency made this determination after having been made aware of recent drug studies on the ingredients.

Amazon will be or has already removed NMN from it's listings.

From the FDA

According to Health news, the FDA released a statement on December 17, stating that they had been in contact with several dietary supplement firms and groups in recent weeks. The agency's conclusion was that NMN cannot be considered a dietary supplement. However, the FDA did not attempt to contact all firms that sell NMN or communicate with retailers that sell NMN supplements. The FDA only contacted those who have submitted a new dietary ingredient notification regarding NMN. The statement further advises that companies selling NMN products as dietary supplements should remove NMN from their products if they wish to continue selling them as dietary supplements.

Furthermore, the FDA states that NMN is not currently approved as a drug in the U.S. To market it as a drug, it would need to undergo evaluation for safety and effectiveness through a New Drug Application process. Companies that wish to market NMN products as nonprescription drugs without an approved application can submit an Over-the-Counter Monograph Order Request (OMOR) to the FDA.

How Much Does NMN Cost?

In Canada you will pay around $200 (Canadian) per month for thirty, 600mg tablets. That will usually last me approximately one month. Some days I take 2 tablets for the extra energy boost. If you are taking a low daily dose you can expect to pay around $130 (Canadian) for thirty, 300mg tablets. I agree it is expensive, but in my case, I find the cost to be worth it. I totally understand this product will not be for everyone.

Conclusion

The potential health benefits of Nicotinamide Mononucleotide (NMN), a precursor of NAD+, have garnered a lot of interest. Research has demonstrated that taking NMN supplements can have positive effects on many different parts of health, including metabolism, neuroprotection, anti-aging, cognitive performance, and cardiovascular health. New evidence suggests that NMN may benefit a range of health outcomes in humans, lending credence to its usage. Even though NMN has a good safety record, we still need studies that follow subjects over an extended period of time to be sure. More research is necessary to completely understand the effects of NMN on human health, but overall, it is a promising nutraceutical with potential health advantages. Your results may differ from mine, and I ask that you please keep that in mind. Your results might be better, worse, or completely nonexistent. My findings have been so remarkable that I felt compelled to share them with you.
