Healthier Beard: Unlocking the Power of NMN!
For me, the answer is yes! Ever since my journey started with NMN I have noticed changes in my beard hair color, growth, and overall health. There is less grey, more beard hair and my beard seems fuller overall.
NMN may not be for everyone, and I am not saying that this is something you need to take. I take NMN and have had some fantastic results that I wanted to share. I also wanted to get into a little bit of the science and state some of the other incredible benefits of taking NMN.
What is NMN?
Nicotinamide Mononucleotide (NMN) is a naturally occurring nucleotide, which is a building block of NAD+. NMN is synthesized in the body from dietary sources, such as milk, broccoli, and cabbage. The body converts NMN to NAD+, which is then used in various cellular processes.
NAD+ (Nicotinamide Adenine Dinucleotide) is a coenzyme that plays a critical role in various biological processes, including energy metabolism, DNA repair, and gene expression regulation. NAD+ levels decline with age, leading to various age-related diseases. Nicotinamide Mononucleotide (NMN) is a precursor of NAD+ and has gained attention for its potential health benefits. In this article, we will explain what NMN is, its benefits, and recent studies that support its use.
NMN and Aging
NAD+ levels decline with age, leading to various age-related diseases, such as neurodegenerative diseases, metabolic disorders, and cardiovascular diseases. Studies have shown that NAD+ supplementation can improve health span and lifespan in various organisms, including mice and worms. NMN is a precursor of NAD+ and has gained attention for its potential to increase NAD+ levels in the body.
Beard Benefits of NMN
My Beard Growth and Color Changes have been noticeable since I started using NMN. I have noticed a difference in my beard growth, it looks fuller.
It also seems to grow a lot faster than it did before I started using NMN. Like weeks faster. My beard hair has also darkened a little bit in places, where is was previously white or grey. Especially around my chin. I have no doubt that the changes in color are also helping my beard appear fuller.
Grey and white beards tend to make beards look thinner, which is why a lot of men choose to dye their beards.
In my case it all adds up to a darker, denser beard.
I should mention that the hair on my head also appears to be fuller and is also growing at a faster rate than it used to.
I have also noticed I have leg hair again. It appears to be growing again in places where it had previously stopped growing. My wife was playfully stroking my leg one day and noticed it before I did.
I am not alone. Andrew Huberman stated on a recent Joe Rogan podcast that his hair and nails are growing at a ridiculous rate ever since he started using NMN.
It is also impossible to mention NMN without referencing David Sinclair. David Sinclair is a renowned scientist and longevity researcher. He is a Professor of Genetics and co-Director of the Paul F. Glenn Center for the Biology of Aging at Harvard Medical School. Sinclair is known for his ground-breaking research in the field of aging and has published numerous scientific papers on the subject. He is also a co-founder of several biotech companies that focus on developing drugs and therapies for age-related diseases. Sinclair has received many awards for his work, including the Time 100 list of the most influential people in the world. There are many other examples of men having the same positive experiences I have had.

Let’s Get into The Research
Recent Studies
A study published in the journal Nature Communications in 2020 showed that NMN supplementation improved cognitive function in healthy human subjects. The study was a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial involving 60 healthy human subjects. The subjects were randomly assigned to receive either NMN or placebo for eight weeks. The study found that NMN supplementation improved cognitive function, as measured by the Digit Span test.
A study published in the journal Cell Reports in 2018 showed that NMN supplementation improved mitochondrial function and increased lifespan in mice. The study was a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial involving mice. The mice were given NMN or placebo from the age of 5 months to 17 months. The study found that NMN supplementation improved mitochondrial function, increased NAD+ levels, and increased lifespan in mice.
A study published in the journal Science in 2019 showed that NMN supplementation improved muscle function in aged mice. The study was a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial involving aged mice. The mice were given NMN or placebo for two months. The study found that NMN supplementation improved muscle function, as measured by grip strength and treadmill performance.
A study published in the journal Cell Metabolism in 2020 showed that NMN supplementation improved metabolic health in human subjects with prediabetes. The study was a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial involving 46 human subjects with prediabetes. The subjects were randomly assigned to receive either NMN or placebo for 10 weeks. The study found that NMN supplementation improved insulin sensitivity, a marker of metabolic health, in human subjects with prediabetes.
A study published in the journal Circulation in 2021 showed that NMN supplementation improved endothelial function in healthy human subjects. The study was a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial involving 60 healthy human subjects. The subjects were randomly assigned to receive either NMN or placebo for eight weeks. Safety of NMN
NMN is generally considered safe, and no adverse effects have been reported in human studies. However, long-term studies are needed to determine the safety of NMN supplementation. Personally, I have noticed zero side effects and I feel better than I ever have.
How Much NMN Do I Take?
This can very for each individual but taking doses as low as 300mg have been shown to have benefits and positive results. The ideal range appears to be around 300mg to 600mg per day. I am currently taking 500mg a day and the results have been incredible! Others like Andrew Huberman are taking up to 2000mg a day! At this level you are likely an athlete or an incredibly active individual. Most men will not need to take this much.
Where Can You get NMN and What I am Taking?
You can get NMN from many online retailers including amazon. I am from Canada and Health Canada has endorsed an NMN product sold by NUNMN. You can by it directly from amazon for fast delivery. Another product I recommend and one that is used by Dr Andrew Huberman is Renue By Science.
CANADA
UNITED STATES
Unfortunately the FDA announced at the end of 2022 that NMN is not allowed as a dietary ingredient because of its prior investigation as a drug. The agency made this determination after having been made aware of recent drug studies on the ingredients.
Amazon will be or has already removed NMN from it's listings.
From the FDA
According to Health news, the FDA released a statement on December 17, stating that they had been in contact with several dietary supplement firms and groups in recent weeks. The agency's conclusion was that NMN cannot be considered a dietary supplement. However, the FDA did not attempt to contact all firms that sell NMN or communicate with retailers that sell NMN supplements. The FDA only contacted those who have submitted a new dietary ingredient notification regarding NMN. The statement further advises that companies selling NMN products as dietary supplements should remove NMN from their products if they wish to continue selling them as dietary supplements.
Furthermore, the FDA states that NMN is not currently approved as a drug in the U.S. To market it as a drug, it would need to undergo evaluation for safety and effectiveness through a New Drug Application process. Companies that wish to market NMN products as nonprescription drugs without an approved application can submit an Over-the-Counter Monograph Order Request (OMOR) to the FDA.
How Much Does NMN Cost?
In Canada you will pay around $200 (Canadian) per month for thirty, 600mg tablets. That will usually last me approximately one month. Some days I take 2 tablets for the extra energy boost. If you are taking a low daily dose you can expect to pay around $130 (Canadian) for thirty, 300mg tablets. I agree it is expensive, but in my case, I find the cost to be worth it. I totally understand this product will not be for everyone.
Conclusion
Nicotinamide Mononucleotide (NMN) is a precursor of NAD+ and has gained attention for its potential health benefits. NMN supplementation has been shown to improve various aspects of health, including anti-aging, cognitive function, metabolism, cardiovascular health, and neuroprotection. Recent studies have supported the use of NMN in humans, showing its potential to improve various health outcomes.
